Family Law covers all sorts of issues connected with the breakdown of personal relationships such as:-

  • Divorce
  • Disputes between people living together
  • Disagreements about arrangements for children
  • Harassment and violence

Wains will deal with matters in a sensitive and conciliatory manner but recognise the need for tough and speedy action in many circumstances, where for example the safety of a child or the protection of people or property is involved.

In Child Care proceedings, where the Local Authority considers it necessary to take action to protect a child from “significant harm”, which may involve removing the child from home, the firm can represent the parent or other adults, as well as the child, enabling decisions of the Local Authority about the children to be challenged effectively.

Court proceedings about family matters can be particularly distressing and expensive for everybody concerned. Wains will provide expert, sympathetic and supportive action, and discuss the availability of Legal Aid or other arrangements for your legal costs to be met in a manageable way.

Wains have partners who are members of the Family Law Panel and the Children’s Panel.

There are, unfortunately, many occasions when some person suffers injury and loss through the negligence of another. Such circumstances may arise in the course of everyday travel either on the roads or railways or at work in the office or a factory. In many cases a duty of care will exist which, having been breached, gives rise to a claim for damages. Other circumstances may give rise to a claim for damages arising from travel and holiday arrangements or arising out of tools or machinery at work, which cause injury to the user. Wains are able to assist on these and many other similar cases and will be able to advise whether, in the circumstances, you have an actionable claim.

People charged with criminal offences (which includes motoring matters) often have no previous experiences of any sort of court procedure, and need guidance and assistance in coping with any summons they receive or charge made against them. Criminal law is complicated and is constantly changing, and it is essential that expert legal advice is obtained at the earliest opportunity to ensure, as far as possible, that the case is dealt with in the best way.

Whether or not you have any previous experience of court proceedings, Wains can advise and assist in dealing with all aspects of criminal cases and motoring matters in both Magistrates’ and Juvenile Court, at the Crown Court, and at Police stations, including arranging for representation at court or during an interview with the Police.

Wains can also advise about the availability of Legal Aid and how to obtain it, and they will always discuss the likely legal cost of a case where Legal Aid is not available, so that helpful arrangements can be made to pay the costs.

When a dispute arises...

Before you take another person or company to court, you will need to have the very best advice. There are countless reasons why you should choose to sue and each will have its own particular set of circumstances which will have to be carefully evaluated.

If you feel you have been wronged, for any reason, and you are wondering whether there is a legal case, one visit to Wains will clarify the matter.

Wains will make it clear at an early stage your chances of winning and the costs involved, so you can make an informed personal decision on whether or not you want to proceed with litigation. Wains will deal with your matter quickly and simply.

There may be an alternative strategy to court proceedings, which might produce a more effective result, but if going to court is the better option you can be assured that Wains will effectively represent you.
